My dearest older sister,
You have given me a gift I can never thank you enough for. It is truly a masterpiece. Please, know that my heart sings, my breath catches ever time I look at it through a veil of happy tears. Thank you for your art and for the honor you have shown me.

With my love and service

Alright, so, I give -- how is the gold-leafing washable? Do you have to heat or steam it in place or some such?

This is really lovely! Thanks for posting all your beautiful work. :)

Are the Bourdichon Hours the same as the Hours of Anne de Bretagne? If so, you can see more of the source manuscript online at the manuscript website of the Bibliotheque Nationale de France (which is called Mandragore). Everything's in French, of course, and I haven't figured out yet how to reliably bookmark individual pages, but here’s how to navigate to the document:

- Go to http://mandragore.bnf.fr/html/accueil.html
- Click Recherche.
- Under "Manuscrits", the first line has an input box labeled "Cote" - enter "Latin 9474" in that box, without the quotation marks.
- Click "Chercher" at the bottom of the screen
- Click "Images"

This will bring up a page from which you can access all the illuminations in the manuscript (almost 400 of them). It's one of my very favorite manuscripts. Mandragore, in general, is a really fun site to browse, if you can struggle through all the French.

Kind regards,
Sara Penrose, OL

Yes, I have. A couple of friends and I went out in January to see the Limbourg Brothers exhibit (they're the ones who did "Les Tres Riches Heures" and "Les Belles Heures". It was FANTASTIC! They Medieval Gallery permanent hall was under construction, so we didn't get to see the stuff they usually have on display. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to go back!

Very cool! Have you been to the Getty Museum in LA? They have some of Bourdichon's work in their collection. They also are running an exhibition of illuminations through May. That's one place I would love to visit if I ever get out to LA.
